A premiere, fast-paced, and collegiate NYC-based Law firm with expertise in Funds, Venture Capital, and Private Equity. I supported the Investment Management Group as a Legal Assistant.
TEAM AND CULTURE
At Debevoise & Plimpton, I contributed to the team culture by supporting senior attorneys and new team members, helping to streamline workflow, manage documents, and facilitate closing preparation. I handled various tasks with attention to detail and responsiveness creating a reliable and collaborative environment, easing the workload for colleagues and fostering a culture of dependability.
ADAPTABILITY AND PROBLEM SOLVING
Legal environments often present unforeseen challenges, from last-minute closings to unexpected regulatory changes. I adapted quickly to shifting priorities, which honed my ability to handle high-stakes situations efficiently. I managed legal documents, compliance tasks, and databases ensuring deadlines were met and processes stayed smooth, even under tight timeframes, adapting to new priorities.
INITIATIVE AND PROACTIVITY
I established ways to improve document management and enhance precedent database organization for the team. Much of corporate legal work is repetitive tasks that can be optimized and automated using macros and Microsoft automation tools, I took steps to anticipate attorneys’ needs, especially during busy times allowing them to focus on higher-priority tasks
LEARNING AND GROWTH
At Debevoise, I was exposed to complex legal issues and high-profile cases. I approached this as a valuable learning opportunity, staying curious and engaged with ongoing developments. I took the time to understand the intricacies of private fund structuring and M&A — the investment management group was highly collegiate and I was held to the same knowledge standard as our attorneys.
CROSS FUNCTIONALITY
As a Legal Assistant, I collaborated with various teams and clients. I reported to our group operations manager and she staffed me on projects, but more directly I reported and received deliverables from attorneys themselves. I communicated between internal attorneys and the client's or the client's executive assistant. By effectively communicating and coordinating, I ensured that documentation was completed, filed, and accessible by closing.
STRATEGIC SCALABLE THINKING
Even in a support role, I always worked to apply strategic thinking by understanding the bigger picture and the future. I established a database of side letter precedents which was used to streamline negotiations and clause creation. This sort of database is the core infrastructure for AI and Automation enabling organized searches for future staff.
CUSTOMER / USER IMPACT
My work had a direct impact on clients by helping attorneys deliver organized, well-prepared documents for closing. Efficient document management and attention to compliance helped attorneys avoid potential issues in court, directly supporting positive case outcomes and contributing to client satisfaction.
VALUES AND MISSION
Debevoise is known for excellence and a client-first approach, values that I demonstrated through meticulous attention to detail and dedication to high-quality work. Whether managing intricate documentation or supporting time-sensitive closings, I aligned with the firm’s commitment to thoroughness and best-in-class client services.
DEPARTURE
I left Debevoise to transition into a more finance-oriented role at Credit Suisse, where I could apply my experience to a broader set of operational and strategic challenges.
